Persian Hekâyat facing the French fable

Résumé [English]

Fable and Heykâyat, having their roots in the mists of time, are among the oldest and the most popular genres in the literary genres of the world. At the beginning of the 20th century, the first Iranian literary association, anjoman-e dâneškadeh, which is tried to instill the spirit of 20th century in the body of Persian literature, carried out a few translations of French fables. Being warmly welcomed by the readers, these translations were promptly inserted and integrated into the schoolbooks of the country.

Given the value attributed to the translation of this kind of text in Iranian society, this research aims to analyze how the approach of these two kinds of apologues can be distinguished or eventually confronted each other. Answering these questions requires a comparison of the theories and practices concerning these two literary creations in the light of a French fable translated into Persian by Mohmmad Taghi Bahar.
