ژولین گرین را بهعنوان رماننویسِ پریشانحالان میشناسند؛ مراجعه به نخستین رمانهای او، از مونسینر گرفته تا حطام نشان میدهد محور اصلی کار او حول اشخاصی میگردد که بحرانهای درونی را تجربه میکنند و، همهنگام، با خود و دیگران در نزاعاند، خواه در سکوت، خواه با پرخاش. شخصیت اصلی رمان حطام نمونۀ جالبی از ایندست افراد آشفته است. او شبی، در حاشیۀ رود سن، فریاد کمک زنی را میشنود، ولی بهروی خود نمیآورد و وقتی به این نتیجه میرسد که بزدل است یگانه راه رهایی را در بازبینی زندگی خویش و مفهوم مسئولیت میبیند. اینگونه است که افکار وسواسگونه و هجمۀ خاطرات دردناک و هراس و اضطرابهای قدیمی ذهنش را درگیر میکند. تحلیل روایتشناختی این رمان، به کمک دستهبندیهایی که ژرار ژنت در گفتمان حکایت ارائه کرده، بهویژه با تکیه بر بسامد و صدا، به ما کمک میکند تا در این رمان گرین، پی به تکرارگوییِ یگانه رخدادی ببریم که، چونان سمفونی، مقامی خاص را برمیگزیند و پیوسته با الحان مختلف بازتابش میدهد و تکرارش میکند.
Responsibility, awareness and obsession
The repetitive story in Épaves by Julien Green

Julien Green is recognized as the novelist of tormented souls. By focusing on the first writings of his long career as a writer, from Mont-Cinère (1927), his first novel, to Epaves (1932), we note that this prolific writer of the twentieth century likes to tell the internal conflicts which lead people to confront each other, sometimes with brutality, sometimes in a morose and dreamy silence. The main character of Epaves presents a particularly interesting case: during a night walk, he refuses to rescue a woman threatened by a man. The discovery of his cowardice leads him to reconsider the meaning of his life and that of responsibility: from then on, he is caught up in the spiral of obsessive thoughts, the flow of painful memories and the reminiscence of old fears. The narratological analysis of this novel with the categories proposed by Gérard Genette in Figures III, in particular the narrative frequency (repetitive story) and the voice, will allow us to better understand Green's novels in his way of telling the interior life of an individual, walled up in in communication and vanity. This structuralist approach will lead us to see in this novel a great symphony where a repetitive sentence is played out in several modes.
