Duchetian reading of Daewoo by François Bon
چکیده EnglishWe are confronted with the establishment of three factories by the Korean conglomerate “Daewoo” in Lorraine region. Despite financial hurdles at the time of their inauguration, their creation was made possible through substantial state subsidies aimed at generating employment. However, the factories were eventually relocated. Structured like a reportage, this novel brings together testimonies from former employees and traces their destinies. The abrupt closure of the three factories led to the unemployment of twelve hundred individuals. François Bon thus becomes a writer guided by ethical responsibility—a spokesperson for the voiceless—who narrates societal issues in a manner that is both fictional and profoundly authentic. This article aim to examine Daewoo, one of François Bon’s narratives, through the sociocritical lens of Claude Duchet. Bon’s writings are deeply rooted in social realities, and for him, literature serves as a means of preserving the memory of the working class. Analyzing this work through Duchet’s sociocritical framework is especially relevant, as it brings to light the core concepts proposed by the critic within the novel. It also provides an opportunity to explore the book’s social dimension and examine how narrative sociality is expressed through the literary techniques employed by the author.
